Finding homely comforts in the lap of luxury
Even though I've lived in Cape Town all my life, I often find myself in awe of the many hidden gems I stumble upon — from delightful eateries to tranquil retreats. Case in point: an invitation to stay at the luxurious five-star Tintswalo Atlantic Lodge nestled at the foot of Chapman's Peak.
After last year's devastating Cape fires, in which the lodge was burnt to the ground, it's been rebirthed to a sanctuary combining homeliness and opulence — a feat not easily achieved, yet somehow Tintswalo Atlantic gets it just right.
Being simple, minimalist creatures by nature, it came as a surprise how disappointed both my husband and I felt when we eventually had to vacate our charming room with picturesque views, say goodbye to the heated pools and return to the real world just a few kilometres away. In fact, the splendour of the lodge didn't detract from its personable feel: falling asleep to the waves breaking right outside our floor-to-ceiling windows, indulging in a relaxing massage in the privacy of the suite or taking in the sight of the chefs at work in the interactive kitchen while enjoying their creative culinary delights.
